Born in: Covington, Kentucky
Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana

Robert Paul Kruse, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on November 14, 2025, at the age of 81 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on March 29, 1944, in Covington, Kentucky, Bob led a life filled with compassion, love, and commitment to his family and community.

Bob’s professional journey was marked by dedication and success, beginning with Amour – Dial, Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Stokely Van Camp, American Fletcher National Bank then serving as Marketing Manager and eventually VP of Marketing for Bank One Corporation for two decades before retiring in 2001. His career was a testament to his hard work and innovative thinking, but it was his role as a family man that truly defined him.

A proud Army Sergeant during the Vietnam War, Bob exemplified the values of service and sacrifice during his time in both Vietnam and West Berlin. In addition to his military service, he took great pride in his education, graduating from St Henry Catholic School in Erlanger, Kentucky and holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the University of Kentucky.

He cherished the moments spent with his family and was deeply involved in their lives. Bob’s loving wife, Carol Laynn Kruse, stood by him through the years, sharing life’s joys and challenges. He is survived by his devoted children: Melissa Marie (James) Van Pelt, Robert Wayne (Teresa) Kruse, and Jennifer Lynn (Jason) Wenberg. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Alec Van Pelt, Carson Van Pelt, Grace Van Pelt, Alexa Kruse, Benjamin Kruse, Owen Wenberg, Nathan Wenberg, and Emma Wenberg, all of whom brought immense happiness to his life.  He is also survived by his brother James Richard (Nancy) Kruse, his brother-in-law Dan Baker, several fond nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob was a man of many interests and hobbies, enjoying golf, ancestry investigation, investments, baseball coaching and umpiring, reading, and traveling. He was known for his warmth and an unwavering dedication to his family. However, Bob was best known for his ability to take command of a room and hold court with any audience, known or otherwise. No one could tell a story better.  A member of St. Jude Catholic Church, he served as president of the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, money counter, and festival volunteer. He also volunteered for St. Vincent dePaul, where he showcased his commitment to giving back to the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Wainwright and Mary Louise (Wiegel) Kruse, and his brother, Thomas Lee Kruse. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.

Guestbook

  1. Bob was such a wonderful neighbor and friend to us for over 30years. Our lives are forever changed and uplifted by the gift of his presence with us. We shed tears at his death but rejoice in his heavenly fiuture.

  2. Bob was such a staple at all the family events growing up. My siblings and I reflect fondly on Bob and laugh at his stories and one liners. We love you guys and your family. Our deepest sympathies.

  3. Heaven just got a lot funnier.

So sorry to hear about the loss of Bob. From a very young age, I regarded Bob as the model of family values, someone who had things in perspective, who worked hard and played hard. It always meant so much to me that he took a genuine interest in the children of his cousins!

I can’t think of him without hearing his signature laugh. He was the master of one-liners that I still use to this day.

Our love to the family. Thank you for sharing Bob with us and the world!

  4. We will certainly miss his smile and joking around. Lyle is really going to miss him at the monthly HOA men’s euchre club here as well. Bob loved having a good time.

  5. To Carol and Bob’s entire family, I offer my most sincere condolences. Bob was one of the most outgoing and pleasant persons I’ve ever known. I so much looked up to him and thought of him as my “Big Brother” I never had. I know Bob’s world here on earth is in mourning right now, but heaven is rejoicing because it’s never been a funnier or happier place than it is now!

  6. So many things. First met Bob when we built our first home on Armstrong Ct. It was such a cherished time. There were the basketball games with the dads and boys. The swim club with our children at FC. The softball games with daughters in Wanamaker. Of course our decades at St Jude. The start of the parish festivals and the fun times working them. Bob could light up the room like no one else. Such a joy to be around. We were blessed to be a part of his life.

  7. I remember all the years coming to visit Teri and Rob and family and also have the honor of visiting with Carol and Bob kruse. He could always light up a room with his great sense of humor ,amazing smile and funny stories. He will be missed and always remembered. God bless you all and I am so sorry for our loss.

  8. Carol Laynn, I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was an amazing person and always made me laugh. I know Heaven is a little funnier now. You are in my prayers. I’m sorry I won’t be able to attend, I just heard this evening.
