Robert S. Biro

April 10, 1934 ~ May 27, 2025

Born in: Hammod, Indiana
Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana

Robert (Bob) Sidney Biro, aged 91, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his children, on May 27th, 2025. Bob was born in Hammond, Indiana, on April 10, 1934, to Dean C. Merrill and Bertha née Campbell. After the death of his mother, he was adopted and raised by Sidney D. and Lucy M. Biro.

Bob enlisted in the Navy in 1952 during the Korean conflict and served on the USS Robert K Huntington, a destroyer. He took great pride in his naval service and had many hats to commemorate his time in the Navy. After his military service, he married Marjorie (Margie) Lee née Meek, with whom he had five children. His family has since grown to include 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, all of whom he said are “intelligent and beautiful.”

Bob spent the majority of his career at Recommended TV on the southside of Indianapolis, and he continued to work with televisions long after his retirement. He also worked for the Indianapolis Department of Public Works and Closure Systems International in Crawfordsville, IN, before his ultimate retirement.

Bob had a wide range of interests, most of which centered around his children. He is fondly remembered playing the harmonica and accordion, instilling a love of music in his children and grandchildren. He was a long-time member of the St. Catherine of Sienna choir. Bob loved fishing, watching the Cubs, and most recently, nature shows on PBS.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Maxwell), his daughters Dawne A. Frame (Fred) and Audrey J. Finchum (Tom), his son George H. Biro (DeDe), and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Biro, and his sons Robert II and Steven Biro.

The visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:30 AM on Saturday, May 31st at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, of which he was a member (2905 Carson Avenue, Indianapolis, IN). The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately afterwards at 11:30 AM by Father Robert Robeson, Administrator of the Parish. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to St. Francis Hospice for their guidance and support during Bob’s in-home hospice care. The nurses, aides, therapists, and musicians provided invaluable care and assistance. Thank you also to Clover Home Health Care, provided by the VA for their aides who provided housekeeping and meal preparation.

Donations may be made to the charity of your choice, Good Shepherd Catholic Church, or Good Shepherd St. Vincent de Paul. Envelopes are available at the church.

  2. I worked with Bob at Prefered TV in the early 1970’s. I was in my late teens. He was a good guy. Sorry for your loss.
