Roy Allan Saunders, born September 1, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on August 16, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, after a short illness. He was 83 years old. Roy’s life was marked by integrity, kindness, and a deep devotion to his family and work.
Roy was the beloved son of Joseph and Alberta Saunders, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Scecina Memorial High School in 1960 before continuing his education at Purdue University. His pursuit of knowledge and technical skill led him to a remarkable career as a business analyst and computer programmer with IBM and International Flavor. Family, friends and neighbors, respected Roy for his expertise—a true “technology genius”—and his unwavering dedication to every project he undertook.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roy’s greatest pride and source of happiness was the time he spent with his beloved wife, Peggy Jo Saunders, who preceded him. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life and remains an enduring part of his legacy.
Roy’s passion extended beyond his professional achievements; he found joy in tending to his flower and vegetable garden, nurturing both plants and relationships with the care and patience that characterized his approach to life. His warmth, humble confidence, and gentle humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Roseann (John) Buergelin, his son, Frank Saunders, and his cherished granddaughter, Danielle Lindsay. Roy is also mourned by his sisters, Lyn (Fred) Shonk and Nancy (Doug) Jenkins, and his brother, Joe (Jeanne) Saunders. His memory will live on through his nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as all who were fortunate to know him. Roy is reunited in peace with his wife, Peggy Jo, his parents, Joseph and Alberta, his sister, Trudi Butler, and his brother, Tom Saunders.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Roy and Peggy Jo’s life and honor their memory at a visitation on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 5:00 p.m. Both services will be held at O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S East St, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
