Celebrating the life of Sandra Helen McGovern, a cherished woman known for her loving, devoted, caring, and faithful spirit. Born on July 8, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Sandra made her home in Greenwood, Indiana, where she contributed greatly to her community and family.
Sandra spent over two decades serving as a bus driver for Perry Township Schools/Rise program. She concluded her career in 1993. She enjoyed transporting special needs children and developing countless friendships with many parents and kids through her career.
A devout member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, Sandra’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She loved hosting big family dinners and cherishing time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found joy in various activities and spending time with family and friends in Brown County at their lake cabin. She enjoyed many trips to the Mirage in Las Vegas, playing the slot machines, traveling the world with her beloved husband, John McGovern, and family.
She leaves behind a legacy through her family with her children: Tim (Nancy) McGovern, Kevin (Sherrie) McGovern, Kelli Boehm, Tracy (Jeff) Piercefield, and Kim (Jim) Williams. Her love and life lessons continue to live on through her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Kathy Donohue.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents, James and Ruth (Phillips) Delaney; her husband, John McGovern; son, Patrick McGovern; and grandson, Adam Boehm. Their memories hold a dear place in the hearts of all who knew them.
Visitation for Sandra will be Tuesday, August 26, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 27, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 399 S. Meridian Street, Greenwood, Indiana, 46143. Mass will be held in the OLG Chapel. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Garden.
In memory of Sandra, contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association. Her family invites those who knew her to reflect on her generous spirit, remembering how she touched their lives with her kindness and warmth. Sandra’s memory will undoubtedly live on through the love she showed with her family and friends.
