Celebrating the life of Shirley Ann Dilger, who passed away surrounded by love and memories. Born on December 4, 1926, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Leo and Clara (Hoffman) Landwerlen, Shirley’s life was marked by a deep devotion to her family and community.
Known for being loving, devoted, and caring, Shirley left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her. She spent many years as a meticulous bookkeeper at the family business, Landwerlen Leather, where her keen eye for detail and steadfast work ethic were invaluable.
Shirley’s faith played a pivotal role in her life. She was a devout member of St. Roch Catholic Church and deeply devoted to the Blessed Mary. Her commitment to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life and inspired those around her.
Her leisure time was filled with activities that brought joy not only to her but also to her loved ones. Whether it was playing cards, knitting, sewing, indulging in a good book, solving crosswords, or cheering on her favorite sports teams, Shirley embraced each with enthusiasm.
Married to the late James Dilger Sr., Shirley’s legacy of love continues through her children, Monica, Maureen, Patty, Lynne, and Jim Jr. She was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, leaving behind many who looked up to her as a matriarch.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband James and her parents, Leo and Clara. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, as a testament to a life well-lived and a love well-shared.
A private family service was held for Shirley at O’Riley–Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Private burial was at Calvary Cemetery.
