Shirley Ann (Eckstein) Miller, 88, Indianapolis, passed away after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis on November 16, 2025.  Mrs. Miller was born December 28, 1936, in Beech Grove, to the late Alfred G. and Margie (Morrison) Eckstein.  She married the late Paul R. Miller on June 17, 1958, and he preceded her in death on July 25, 2015.

Shirley was a the co-owner and operator of Eckstein Shoe Store and Repair for 58 years, retiring in December of 2011.  She was a longtime member of Nativity Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and part of the Ave Maria Guild.  In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, playing euchre, pinochle, and cheering for the Indianapolis Colts.  Shirley will be remembered for her generous spirit, compassion, and strength, especially during her illness.

In addition to her parents, and Paul, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Lark and grandsons, Robert Lee Miller and Daniel DeWitt, Jr.

Survivors include her children, Chris (Dave) Schwettman, Bob Miller, Teri (Dan) DeWitt, Brenda (Jesse) Brown; brothers, Ron (JoEllen) Eckstein and Gary Eckstein; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday November 23, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory and from 10 to 11 a.m., on Monday, November 24, 2025, in Nativity Catholic Church.  The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m., with burial following in Holy Cross Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Nativity Catholic Church or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  Visit www.ORileyBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.

  2. I loved Shirley she was the most loving person! She and I shared the love for the Rosary and we would get together weekly and visit and say the Rosary together! She will be so missed
