Susie Simms

April 3, 1945 ~ October 12, 2023
Susie Simms, 78 of Indianapolis (formerly from Canton, Michigan) passed away peacefully Thursday, October 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 3, 1945, in Lepanto, Arkansas to the late Robert “Slick” and Pauline (Watson) Peeper.
Susie married the love of her life Thomas G. Simms on December 15, 1962. They were happily married for 59 years, until Tommy passed away on December 26, 2021.
Susie spent her younger years working in the family business, Peeper Drywall. She went on to become a controller for Technicolor and spent he the last 10 years of her career as the office manager for Fun Services of Greater Indiana before retiring in 2010.
Susie always reminded everyone that she was proud of her southern heritage, perhaps it was just the southern food! Susie was an exceptional cook and loved nothing more than preparing meals for family and others. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family, especially her kids and grandkids. She never turned down the opportunity to attend a good gospel singing or a church potluck. She loved going to the Casino, where you would literally have to drag her out after 12 to 15 hours of slot play. She was highly competitive in Dominoes and Euchre and loved attending live baseball games with her son. She was an avid reader and loved what we called her “Smut” books.
Susie leaves her legacy to her family: children; Jeffrey (Dawn) Simms and Christina (Timothy) Naughton, grandchildren; Josh Naughton, J’Aimee (John) Justiniano, and Jordan (Marija Skaro) Naughton, Anastasia Simms and Robby Simms, 3 great grandchildren, siblings; William Peeper, Mittie McMaster and Brenda Schultz and sisters-in-laws; Frances Peeper, Polly (Ron) Jones and Terri Simms, along with her faithful four legged buddy Tucker, aka: “Taco”.
In addition to her loving husband, Susie is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law; Gentry and Polly Simms, brother; Robert Peeper and brother-in law; Terry “Mac” McMaster.
Susie’s Life Celebration® visitation will be Monday, October 16, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 PM. Burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana.

My first encounter with Susie at our children’s wedding was quite memorable! What a pip she was! Spoke her mind without hesitation. I had been warned, but it didn’t bother me one bit! I thought it was great; I thought SHE was great! She was very much loved by many, including us, and she will be very much missed! Sending lots of love and hugs to the family!
I loved how Jeff had to call his Mom every time he made corn on the cob to remind him how to make it!

I was Sue’s supervisor early on in my career at Technicolor. We discovered through conversations that we had Arkansas roots and there was a bond from that point on. She always spoke her mind to me and I always listened. It’s been years since I’ve seen her but I will always have fond thoughts of the respect I had for her and the time we worked together.
RIP MS Simms ❤️

Bill & Karen Farley Family has purchased Purple Majesty for Susie Simms
My family grew up with the Peeper family literally from toddlers to adulthood. At one time Susie cleaned my house. She left to take her job with Technicolor. I tried 2 other cleaners. Didn’t keep them long. Pauline Peeper taught her girls how to clean house. No one compared to Susie. She was a good soul. So sorry for your loss.
