Thomas J. Roesch, 78, Avon, a former longtime Indianapolis resident and Lilly retiree, passed away August 4, 2025.  Tom died from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease, a battle he faced with grace and strength for years.  He was born July 4, 1947, in Indianapolis to the late Ryland P. Roesch, M.D. and Nancy (O’Neil) Roesch.

Tom graduated from Shortridge High School and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1969.  Tom dedicated 40 years to his career with Eli Lilly and Company, retiring from their equipment development division in 2008.  Tom was a 25-year member of the Indianapolis Hiking Club.  Tom was a hobby guy who enjoyed classic cars and spending time in his workshop at home, where he was known to be handy enough to fix just about anything.  He enjoyed being active and working outdoors on their property as well as hiking with his wife.  Tom will be fondly remembered for his loyalty and strong work ethic.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan and Charley Roesch, and a stepson, Michael Gaines.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Theresa (Kirch) “Terry” Roesch; his brother, Richard (Laura) Roesch; niece, Amanda Roesch; nephew, Darren Roesch; stepson, Damon Gaines.

A Life Celebration® gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis.  Light refreshments will be served.  The memorial service will begin at 4 p.m.  Tom will be laid to rest in the family niche at Calvary Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Life’s Journey of Avon Hospice or your favorite charity.  Visit www.ORileyBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.

  1. Tom was one of the nicest engineers I’ve worked with. He was always willing to share his knowledge from his years in the field. He taught me how to Tig weld in our shop after hours, and loved talking cars with me. I will remember his stories of his Purdue days when we would visit our Lafayette plant, and hit his favorite places to eat.
