Jack Martin Price

October 17, 1940 ~ November 12, 2021
Jack Martin Price, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family during the late evening hours of November 12, 2021. Jack was born on October 17, 1940 in Indianapolis to the late Martin L. and Viola (Fortner) Price. On August 1, 1959 in Assumption Parish in Indianapolis, Jack wed Elizabeth E. “Betty” Kerr; Betty survives. This loving union produced their four children.
Jack graduated from Martinsville High School. His mechanically inclined mind led him to have a very successful career in appliance service and repair for over 50 years. Jack owned and operated his own appliance repair business, Kerr Refrigeration, Inc. in Indianapolis. Jack was a proud member of the Refrigeration Service Engineer’s Society. He will always be remembered as the hardworking patriarch of the family.
When not working, Jack enjoyed classic cars, specifically any car made before 1960. Jack was a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club of America, RG56, where he served as treasurer for the past ten years. This membership allowed Jack to travel to car shows with his wife often. Jack liked to work on car repairs. He was known as the master mechanic who could fix anything from a vehicle to a child’s toy. You could always find Jack tinkering around the house or assisting a neighbor with a repair. Jack was also a devoted grandfather, from sporting events to recitals and band concerts, Jack never missed one of their events.
An honest man, you always knew where you stood with Jack. He was quiet-natured, and if he was ever struggling, he did so humbly. His perseverance and “my way” spirit followed Jack throughout the entirety of his life, even up to the time of his passing, Jack went to heaven on his own terms.
When asked about how he would like to be remembered, Jack hoped that his family would remember him as a very caring father and grandfather. His advice to those he leaves behind is to always work hard and be an honest person in this life. Jack’s hardworking and caring nature will live on in each of those he leaves behind.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth E. “Betty” Price; his children, Jack M. (Terren) Price, II, Dale E. (LeAnn) Price, and Jennifer (Robert, Jr.) McAvene; his brothers, Robert and Thomas Price; his sisters, Kathy Wyatt and Judy Strader; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended members of Jack’s family.
