Danny is survived by his son, Joshua Franklin Oakes and his granddaughter, Lani Nicole Oakes of Bargersville, Indiana; his daughter, Rebecca Marie Oakes of Greenwood, Indiana; and his youngest son, Elijah Lee Oakes of Whiteland, Indiana. Danny’s son, Benjamin Christian Oakes, predeceased him in 2018.
Danny is also survived by his sister, Barbara Denise Wayne of Indianapolis, Indiana; Dennis Oakes of Rockwell, Texas; Debi Binkley (Jerry) of Camby, Indiana, Doug Oakes of Rochester, Indiana, Dean Oakes of Zionsville, Indiana and Dorn Brenton (Lucy) of Hardinsburg, Indiana, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Danny’s parents, Harold Oakes and Bette Jane Richmond, preceded him in death in 1969 and 1997, respectively.
During his lifetime, Danny lived in Indiana, California, France and Alabama. He maintained a beautiful portfolio of work he had created in designing artistic ceramic tile structures, both commercially and residentially. In his earlier years, he loved to fish, was an avid movie and trivia buff, and loved spending time at family get-togethers. He was a passionate fan of both the San Francisco 49ers and Notre Dame. Most of all, Danny was extremely proud of his four children and always shared his tremendous love for them with anyone who was willing to listen. Danny was also very proud that he had maintained sobriety, with the help of AA, for nearly 30 years.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Danny’s good friend of many years, John Whiteland, and to Main Street Hospice and Hickory Creek Skilled Care facility, Franklin, Indiana, for the loving care they provided to Danny over the past several weeks.
At Danny’s request, no funeral will be held at this time. The family plans to have a Celebration of Life honoring Danny at a later date. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to O'Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.
