Josephine P. Gallagher

December 11, 1931 — February 25, 2021

Josephine P. Gallagher, 89, Indianapolis, passed away February 25, 2021. Mrs. Gallagher was born December 11, 1931, in Euclid, Ohio, to the late Anton and Pauline (Sivec) Skojac.

She moved to Indianapolis at an early age and was a proud graduate of St. John High School. Josephine was employed at Standard Grocery for more than 38 years, retiring as the dairy manager. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She was an avid and competitive card player and especially enjoyed euchre. Josephine also enjoyed cheering on the Indiana Hoosiers. She will be fondly remembered for her hard work ethic, independence, and faithfulness to the Church and especially her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Gallagher; siblings, John Skojac, Antonia “Deedee” Dezelan, and Louise Hicks.

Survivors include three children, Donna (John) Schafer, Tony (Pam) Gallagher, and Angie (Todd) Freeland; brothers, Dan and Anton, Jr.; sisters, Barb Campbell, Johanna Poirier, and Mary Wright; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will not be observed. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in St. Mark Catholic Church. Cremation will follow, inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. O’Riley Funeral Home is serving the family.
