Larry E. McAtee, 73, Greenwood, passed away peacefully at home December 9, 2021, after a brief, but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born December 13, 1947, in Indianapolis, to the late John L. and Marjorie J. (Queen) McAtee. He married the love of his life and his best friend, Carole (Davids) McAtee on June 29, 1973, and she survives.
Larry was a proud graduate of Scecina Memorial High School, class of 1965, and kept in touch with numerous classmates. Larry enjoyed a successful career in logistics and transportation management and was a 40 year member of the Indianapolis Transportation Club.
He was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church. Larry generated laughter everywhere he went and was famous for telling jokes. He and Carole loved to travel; Larry naturally was the careful and conscientious planner of the trips to all 50 states and internationally to Canada, Ireland, Scotland, and Italy. He was an avid card player, holding countless nights of poker games around his custom card table in his beloved man cave. Larry was a diehard Cubs fan. He enjoyed traveling to sporting events, but his all-time favorite was his annual trip with his daughter Lauren to their beloved Notre Dame football games. Above all, Larry loved his family. One of his very favorite pastimes was wrestling and playing with his beloved granddaughter, Nola. Larry’s memory will be forever cherished by a loving family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carole; one daughter, Lauren (Nathan) Glawatz and their daughter, Nola; brother, Mark (Cheryil) McAtee; sister, Mary Jo (Dennis Meyer) Steele; a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins, who he loved dearly.
Friends and family are invited to Larry’s Life Celebration® Visitation that will also honor his 74th birthday on Monday, December 13, 2021, 4 to 8 p.m., at the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021, in Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church. In an effort to create a safe environment, the family requests that masks be worn. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to St. Meinrad Archabbey.
