Susie (Schmoll) Pinna

Susie (Schmoll) Pinna, 80, lifelong Indianapolis resident passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 24, 2023.  Susie was born December 22, 1942, in Indianapolis, to the late Joseph and Ruth (Weddle) Schmoll. 

She attended St. Roch Grade School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School.  Early on, Susie worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Richard Berger.  After starting a family and while her children were in school, Susie worked as the Lunch Lady, along with her sister Betty, at St. Roch Grade School for 15 years.  Susie began a career when she was in her late 50’s, working in the banquet department at the Hyatt Regency.  Because of her strong work ethic and selflessness, she earned many awards through the years including employee of the year and was a nominee multiple times and won the coveted Rose Award in 2007. 

Susie was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church.  Susie’s home was open to everyone.  She loved cooking and feeding everyone she knew, especially her family.  She enjoyed shopping, puzzles, and took great pride in always making her home and her yard look beautiful.  Susie will always be remembered for her kindness, wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and incredibly sweet demeanor.  Even in her final days in the hospital, she was an eternal optimist and strong for those she loved the most – her dear family. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Michael A. Pinna; brothers, Jack and Robert Schmoll; sisters, Norma Pavey, Betty Mappes, and Nancy House; a granddaughter, Jessica Pinna. 

Survivors include her children, Brandon Michael (Nancy) Pinna, Stephanie (David) Marshall, Shelly (Chris) Winter, Jim (Angie) Pinna, Liz (Dean) Beer; brother, Ronnie Schmoll; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister-in-law, Marie (the late Tom) Radkevich; beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Susie’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be held Friday, January 27, 2023, 4 to 8 p.m., at the O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, where morning prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2023.  Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. in St. Roch Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jessica's Gift or to the David Moore Food Pantry.
