Alfred J. Del Verne

September 13, 1942 ~ January 27, 2025
Alfred J. Del Verne, a beloved figure whose presence illuminated the lives of those around him, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on September 13, 1942, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, to the late John and Concette Del Verne, Alfred was a man who dedicated his life to the service of others, sharing his warmth and humor without reservation. Alfred married Carol, who was the love of his life, on October 5, 1967, and together they had 5 beautiful children and 11 grandchildren.
Throughout his career in food service, Alfred forged many cherished friendships, becoming a dependable confidant for those fortunate enough to know him. He possessed an innate ability to uplift spirits with his quick wit; when asked how he was doing, he was known to quip, "If I was any better, I would be a twin." This humor often belied a heart of gold, for beneath his "gruff" exterior lay the tender soul of a big teddy bear.
Alfred's unwavering faith was evident in his long-standing dedication as a parishioner at Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. Through his actions, he imparted invaluable lessons of love and kindness to his children, nurturing their spiritual growth alongside their earthly endeavors. He truly was a "teacher" in every sense, leaving a profound impact, especially on his grandchildren, who will forever carry a piece of his legacy in their hearts.
His love for woodworking was another testament to his caring nature; in his workshop, he crafted treasured keepsakes like teeter-totters and headboards for his grandchildren. These tangible reminders of his affection will undoubtedly bring smiles and warmth in the years to come, illustrating his belief in the beauty of creation and family togetherness.
Alfred’s kindness extended beyond his family as he readily made time for friends and acquaintances alike. Whether it was to share in someone’s joy or to offer a helping hand in times of need, he was always there, embodying the values of friendship and support.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 57 years; Carol (Raboci) Del Verne, children; John (Sherry) Del Verne, Jenifer Gholston, Angelo (Danielle) Del Verne, Julie (Mike) Coyne, and Emily (Mike) Adams, along with his grandchildren; Joe, Nick, Jessica, Sophie, Anthony, Andrew, Katie, Tom, Matthew, Josh, and Evelyn.
Alfred is preceded in death by his son-in-law; Curt Gholston.

For many years while growing up our family made frequent trips to Uniontown to visit with the DelVernes. My sister Adrienne and I were cousins to Al and his brothers. His Mother was our Father’s Sister. A lot of fond memories of those visits. It was sad to receive the notification and we wish his family all the very best. He will be missed.
