David L. Speth, 80, passed away on September 22, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on June 2, 1946, in Indianapolis, to the late George & Rosemary Speth. David lived a life grounded in love, faith, service, and quiet joys. He was a kind and loving man who was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Those who knew him will remember how faithfully he showed up for the people he loved. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and he rarely missed their school activities and sporting events. His steady presence, encouragement, and devotion were gifts that will be remembered for years to come.
David was a proud United States Air Force veteran. His time in the military laid a strong foundation for the success that followed throughout his working life. He spent his career as an air traffic controller and a computer analyst, and during those years he formed many lifelong friendships with colleagues and friends.
On June 6, 1970, David married the love of his life, Mary Ann. This year, they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary, a beautiful milestone in a life shared together. David and Mary Ann also enjoyed traveling and made many treasured memories together in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida.
David found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. He could often be found in his chair working on a sudoku or crossword puzzle, always enjoying the challenge. He especially loved playing a good game of backgammon with family or friends. He also loved fishing and found a special sense of calm in nature. An avid gardener, David took great pride in growing tomatoes, corn, and garlic, and his garden was one of his proudest accomplishments.
His faith was an important part of his life. David was a parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church for 50 years, a lasting reflection of his devotion and commitment.
David is survived by his loving wife; Mary Ann Speth, children; Erin (Donavan) Koester, and David (Sara) Speth, grandchildren; Xavier Koester, Patrick (Erin) Clarke, Griffin (Jami) Koester, Anastasia Koester, Laura Speth, Rececca Speth, and William Speth, great-granddaughter; Anastasia Ann, sister; Angie (Tom) Egan, sister-in-law; Edie Speth, along with his 23 favorite nieces & nephews.

David and Mary Ann sat very near me most Sundays at St Mark’s. He had a beautiful singing voice and used it well.
Eternal rest, David.
