Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana
Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana
Dr. William D. Padamadan passed away on October 22, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 85. William was born on February 5, 1941, in Kochi, India, to the late Thomas & Rose Padamadan.
William and his six brothers were raised in southern India where even today, countless relatives and friends mourn his death despite 8,800 miles of distance. Immigrating in 1967, he spent most of his adult life as an American citizen, living primarily in Urbana and Columbus, Ohio. In 2018, he moved once more to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he and Betty enjoyed life only a few miles from their daughters and grandchildren.
After graduating medical school in India, he began a long and thriving career in medicine. He served as Medical Director at Ohio Bell, held leadership roles at his local county hospital, worked as a nursing home administrator, and ran his own internal medicine practice. His proudest professional achievement was creating the Internal Medicine Board Review Course (IMBRC). Through group instruction and one-on-one tutoring, he prepared physicians for initial board certification in internal medicine and geriatrics. He was looked to as the master in his field: colleagues, friends, and family members brought their questions to Dr. P, seeking first his valuable insight.
Inside and outside of his career, Dr. P was known for his energy, joy, and comedy, often laughing uncontrollably at his own jokes. That distinctly playful humor remained with him even in his final days.
William was as generous as he was joyful. His generosity extended beyond family and friends, often touching the lives of strangers. In his life, he covered bills, paid school tuition, and even purchased a car for those in need. These acts of kindness were quiet and never expectant of reciprocity or thanks.
He loved sports and competitions, especially on the court. A gifted tennis player, he was invited to join India’s national team but declined to pursue a career in medicine. When his competitive tennis years ended in his late 60s, he took up pickleball and embraced it so enthusiastically that he earned the nickname “Dr. Pickleball.” The sport fulfilled his competitive spirit, and he continued playing until just a few months before his death. He also enjoyed coaching others and sharing his skills and passion for the game.
His greatest joys were his beloved wife, Betty, whom he married on November 29, 1967, and their children and grandchildren. The couple would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year. His children and his grandchildren were blessed by their close, involved, loving relationship.
The death of their son, Dev, in 2009 devastated William and Betty. In time, William found renewed joy in his grandchildren, passing on his humor, spirit, and many other qualities through the example he set. His family finds great comfort knowing he is reunited with Dev.
William is survived by his loving wife; Betty (Papaly) Padamadan, daughters; Michelle (Andrew) Baldwin, and Asha (Andrew) Roesener, grandchildren; Wilken & Meera Baldwin, and Mary & Lucy Roesener, along with his brothers; Sydney (Premy) Padamadan, and Hosi (Reena) Padamadan.
William is preceded in death by his son; Dev Padamadan, and brothers; Joy, Archie, Edwin, and Cyril Padamadan.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 9:30am-10:00am at St. Jude Catholic Church (5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227) with a Memorial Mass immediately following in the church. Dear Padamadan Family,
I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Padamadan and want to express my heartfelt condolences to you all during this painful time.
Having worked with him in the urgent care clinic, I had the privilege of seeing what an extraordinary person he was every day. During our hardest shifts and when we were short on doctors, he was always the first to step in. He never hesitated, never turned down a request for help, and always led with incredible knowledge, calm expertise, and genuine warmth.

In addition he and I were educated in two different colleges in Kochi. I was lucky to have known him and his beloved wife Betty. We incidentally met at some gathering and incidentally realized we are from the same place in Kerala, India.
For many years we were very close friends, neighbors and much more.
In time we went different ways, he in Indiana and we in Florida. But the distance did not affect our strong friendship and maintained until he suddenly left us. The vacuum his departure created can never be filled. We will miss him dearly. We are at peace knowing that his spirit and sweet memories will be with us for ever.
Our heart goes out to Betty, their daughters and grand children.
With everlasting love and respect to our departed friend
