Eileen M. Tandyk

Eileen M. Tandyk, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully December, 16, 2018 with loving family, nursing, and hospice services by her bedside. She was born December 21, 1931 in Indianapolis. Eileen Sylvester graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1949 and took employment with Eli Lilly & Company.

In 1953, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, she married John W. “Jack” Tandyk of Chicago, Illinois. Eileen retired from St. Francis Hospitals after over 30 years of employment in patient advocacy. Because of her dedication to her work, Eileen was the proud recipient of the Family Spirit Award at St. Francis Hospital. Eileen also enjoyed serving as an usher for Notre Dame football games and sewing at Stretch & Sew. A devout Catholic, she was brought in Holy Cross Catholic Church, a member of Holy Name parish and most recently, Nativity Catholic Church.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Carol A. Tandyk, Mary E. Tandyk-Layly, and Janice M. (David) Glassford; her grandchildren, Hailey M. Wilson, Jeremy P. Layly, and Taylor M. Glassford; great grandchildren, Zoe, Lilyia, Ellie, and Ayden; and her sister, Dorothy (Robert) Sylvester Evans.

Eileen is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Tandyk and two brothers, Paul and Jerry Sylvester.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Eileen Tandyk from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. Fr. Justin Belitz will conduct a religious service beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Please consider making a memorial contribution to St. Paul’s Hermitage in Beech Grove and Heart to Heart Hospice; both organizations cared for Eileen with dedication, respect of life, and graceful passage to eternal life.
