James M. Guffey was born on May 12, 1942, in Monticello, Kentucky on May 12, 1942, to the late Carl & Zula Guffey, and peacefully passed away on July 4, 2026, in Indianapolis.
Through the years, James built a life rich in love and togetherness. Above all else, he found his deepest joy in moments shared with his beloved children and grandchildren. Those closest to him will forever cherish memories of his radiant smile and the unmistakable warmth in his eyes when surrounded by his family. To James, the laughter, stories, and gentle embraces of his children and grandchildren were life’s most profound blessings, a love he often described as reaching “to the moon and back.”
His journey was marked by unwavering devotion to those he loved. In every handshake, every kind word, and every proud glance, James made it clear just how much his family meant to him. His presence will be sorely missed, but his lasting legacy lives on in the hearts he touched and in the cherished memories his loved ones will hold dear.
James is survived by his loving children; Patricia Guffey, Melinda (Edgar) Campbell, Michael Guffey, and Angie (Jason Spencer) Guffey, grandchildren; Erin, Evan, Nate, Gray, Chelsie, Tyler, Lexi, and Hailee, and siblings; Clifford Guffey, Virginia Wiggington, and Barbara Glover.
James is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years; Barbara Guffey, and siblings; Wilma Hampton & Wanda Garner.
In this time of loss, we find comfort in remembering James’s joyful spirit and the deep love he gave so freely to his family. The bonds he formed will never fade, and the happiness he brought into the lives of others will remain a guiding presence for years to come.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
