Janet F. Atkins

December 2, 1942 ~ January 30, 2021
Janet F. Atkins, 78, Martinsville, passed away January 30, 2021, after having a sudden heart attack earlier in the week. Janet was born December 2, 1942, in Crawford County, to the late Richard and Nova (Wright) Speedy. She married Floyd Atkins on June 25, 1960, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 2020.
Janet worked alongside Floyd in the family business, Atkins Excavating. While she left most of the dirt pushing to Floyd, she was a capable office manager for many years. She was a longtime and faithful member of Smith Valley United Methodist Church. Janet was an accomplished seamstress; she also enjoyed gardening and flower arranging. While she could be a bit feisty when necessary, Janet will be fondly remembered by her loved ones and many friends for her thoughtful and very generous nature.
In addition to her parents and Floyd, she was preceded in death by brothers, Jake, Lester, Gary, Bobby, and Dennis.
Survivors include her children, Carol Jean (Rick) Bechman and Steve (Susan) Atkins; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Richard) Schroder, Josh Bechman, Jeff Bechman, and Jessica (Jacob) Fink; one great grandchild, Blakely Schroder; siblings, Marvin, Linda, and Nancy.
Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2021, 5 to 8 p.m., at the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street. The funeral service will begin at 12 Noon, Saturday, February 5, 2021, in the Smith Valley United Methodist Church, 5293 Old Smith Valley Road, Greenwood. Aunt Janet, you will be missed. You were always such a great part of our lives. I pray your kids and our family will continue that bond. Love you. Prayers for your family.
Our deepest condolences go out to you and your family. She was a beautiful soul. May she forever Rest In Peace
Janet will be remembered as the most kindhearted, generous and very honest person. She was such a wonderful friend to my mother, Pat Clark. Mom missed her so very much and hoped to get back to Indiana to see her again. Janet will be so missed. Condolences to the Family.
“Janet Atkins” will remain in our hearts forever.
My husband and I worked with Jan at Woolco in Greenwood. She was always very nice to us. I remember her always buying paper towels by the case for their business. Recently reunited with her after several years. Still the same as I remembered. Prayers for peace and comfort for the family. ߙ Rose (Cook) Burden
So many things I will miss about her, especially our visits on the porch. Continued prays for the family and many dear friends.
