John Charles Welch

 

John Charles Welch, 81 of Okeechobee, Florida, formerly of Indianapolis, took the hand of Jesus on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.  He was born on March 26, 1942 in Indianapolis. 

John served in the U.S. Navy.  He worked for Ford Motor until his retirement.  He was a member of Southport Masonic Lodge.  He was a member of Fort Drum Community Church in Okeechobee, Florida.

John was an avid fisherman and had his boat captain license.  John will be remembered for his love of his family, serving God, being  a faithful member of his church.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Judith Lee Rexroat Welch, children Jimmy Welch, Jerretta (Eddie) O’Haver, sister Margaret Ann Wadsworth, Mira Grider, grandchildren John O’Haver, Matthew O’Haver, James (Ali) Welch and great granddaughter Luna Welch.

John’s Life Celebration® visitation will be Saturday June 10 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at O’Riley Branson Funeral Service and Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227.  A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military honors.

  1. Uncle Johnny was the life of the party. He was such fun to be around. When my parents divorced everyone said I would just quit school, everyone that is, except Uncle Johnny and my brother-in-law, Jim. They encouraged me to finish school, and because of them, I did graduate and have always had a special place in my heart for the two of them. I will never forget him. Rest in Peace, I love you, Uncle Johnny.

  2. Fishing with my Dad was a treat! Ice fishing taking hot chocolate to keep warm. Late night adventures in to Indiana strip pits. Sharing the beauty of Blue Cypress Lake in Florida.
    As the pictures show my Dad was an avid fisherman.
