John M. Higgins

John M. Higgins, 85, died peacefully at his home on December 30, 2018. An Indianapolis native, John was the youngest son of Mary and Patrick Higgins. John attended Xavier University, was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia, with the United States Army and then earned his law degree from Indiana University School of Law. John worked for RCA and retired from the Veterans Administration after 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Robert, William, Donald, and Fr. James Higgins.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte (Otte) Higgins; their children, Anne Edwards (Jeff), Carole Morris (Larry), Chuck Higgins (Alesha), Mike Higgins (Virginia Renz) and Jeanne Bergin (Michael); 17 grandchildren; one great grandchild with another on the way.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 3, 2019, 3 to 7 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2019, at St. Roch Catholic Church, 3600 Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, The Little Sisters of the Poor, or to a favorite charity.   1. John was a long time friend and fellow law school attendee from our start in the fall of 1960. I forget which year he graduated, I did so in 1965, and we conversed many times over the years. I remember him fondly, especially a comment he made when we were studying for a test in criminal law, but sadly I can’t repeat it here (chuckle)..I wish his wife and children the best and thank you for your love and attention to him. .Chuck Wilson CHS 55 St Joe 59, IU 65

  2. Charlotte and family I am so sorry to hear about John. I am also sorry I cannot attend the services. My health has not been good for the past year.I have been under going tests to find out what is happening. I will always remember our lunches with our John’s. You have my deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family. Again accept my apologies.
