John Patrick Cahill
John Patrick Cahill, 67, of Martinsville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at St. Francis Hospice House. He was born on November 22, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Jerome “Jerry” Thomas Cahill and Marjorie “Margie” Rose (Schuster) Cahill.
John was the beloved husband of Roberta “Robbie” (Clark) Cahill, whom he married on September 28, 1979. Together, they built a life centered around faith, family, hard work, and countless memories. John’s greatest pride and joy was his family, and there was no greater love in his life than the love he had for his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was the devoted father of Charlie (Nikki) Cahill, Claire (Mustafah) Johnson, Emma (Chad) Gibson, Martha (Craig) Gordon, Molly (Craig) Alliston, Caroline (Scott) Owens. He was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
John was a hardworking and steadfast man who took great pride in providing for his family. He owned and operated Cahill’s Lawn & Landscape, Inc. for more than 30 years before retiring. Through his work, John was known for his dedication, reliability, and willingness to work hard and do things the right way.
John was a faithful member of St. Barnabas Church for over 35 years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. His Catholic faith was an important part of who he was and remained a steady foundation throughout his life.
He loved the simple things that brought people together. John could often be found playing euchre—or any card game for that matter—especially when surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He was also immensely proud of his Irish heritage and cherished traveling to his family’s homeland and connecting with the roots that meant so much to him.
John was stubborn in the best—and sometimes most unmistakably John—way. He was hardworking, loyal, humble, and steadfast. He loved deeply, stood firmly by the people he cared about, and never needed recognition for all that he did. His greatest legacy will not be found in his career or accomplishments, but in the family he loved so fiercely and the lives he touched along the way.
One of John’s special sayings was, “Something wonderful is about to happen.” Those words captured something about the way he lived: with faith, hope, and an expectation that there was always something more to look forward to.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Roberta “Robbie” Cahill; his six children and their spouses; 18 grandchildren; and his six siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Marjorie Cahill; his oldest brother, Thomas Cahill; great-niece Allie Marie Schafer; brother-in-law Delbert Dennis; and nephews Danny and Tony Dennis.
Though his absence will be deeply felt, his family finds comfort in knowing that the love he gave so freely will continue through the generations he leaves behind.
His calling will be held at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory located at 6107 S East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227 on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at St Barnabas Catholic Church located at 8300 Rhake Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46217 on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Franciscan Hospice House.

Rest In Peace cousin John.🇨🇮
When I stayed in your home in the autumn of 2023 and on the other occasions when we met, I was able to see the things that mattered most to you. Your lovely family, -Robbie, your children and grandchildren , and of course your Catholic faith.
So many lovely memories, –
I went to your school reunion with you and Robbie. Met some of your friends from school days and they told a story which made me laugh hearty.
You were approximately 8 yrs old and you and your classmates were told that your teacher was ill. So there you all were and there you were my cousin, an 8yr old boy, -John Cahill- who stood on his chair and sang “Ding Dong the witch is dead…” and then the stern voice from the doorway :” MR CAHILL”
I believe your mom, who worked in the school, was called on !!! No need to say more.
I am so glad I got to know you and thank you for being such a lovely cousin ❤️
I know your Irish heritage meant a lot to you
Ar dheis Dé go raibh d’anam dílis
(May your faithful soul be at the right hand of God)
