Joseph A. Lewis

Joseph A. Lewis, 85, Indianapolis, passed away December 7, 2019. Mr. Lewis was born December 16, 1933, in Indianapolis, to the late Joseph A. and Thelma (Harms) Lewis.
Following graduation from Emmerich Manual High School, Joe proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a forklift driver for John Sexton & Company for 42 years. He was also employed for many years at Wilson Bros. Cadillac Corner. An avid sports fan, Mr. Lewis always enjoyed watching IU Basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. He always looked forward to his yearly trip to Las Vegas. A hard working man, Joe was always there for his family. He will be remembered for his honesty and generosity.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Shirley (Fishburn) Lewis; and two sisters, Josephine Archer and Edna Ann McCarty.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherri (Ken) Massie; sisters, Evelyn (the late Gene) Hemelgarn, Alice (Jack) Shuford; brother, Harold “Bo” Lewis; grandchildren, Christie (Daniel) Boat, Erin Massie, and Terri Gast; great grandchildren, Harrison Boat and Beckett Massie.
Friends and family will gather Friday, December 13, 2019, 4 to 8 p.m., in the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Glenns Valley.
