Judith E. Hirschle

August 30, 1934 ~ July 10, 2025

Born in: Chicago, Illinois
Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana

Judith E. Hirschle, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on July 10, the home she and Carl Hirschle and family shared for 53 years in Hill Valley Estates. Judy was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 30, 1934, to Henry and Irene Tombers. She had three sisters, all of whom preceded her in passing. Judy graduated from the University of Toledo, where she met Carl Hirschle. They moved with three of their eventual five children from Toledo to Indianapolis in 1968 in pursuit of a business venture.

Judy was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church on Indianapolis’ south side (along with Carl, until his passing) for 57 years. She was dedicated to the causes of this parish, as church records indicate her service for Funeral Mercy Meals during 15 years, the Funeral Choir during 3 years, Communion and Visitation for the Homebound during 9 years, Parish Mailings administration during 4 years, Eucharistic Adoration during 14 years, the Christmas Store/Giving Tree during 7 years, Sewing of Baptismal Bids during 16 years, and with St. Vincent DePaul during 8 years. She participated in October for many years for the parish in Life Chain, a literal, prayerful, silent stand against abortion (the parish’s dedicated location was along Meridian Street at 19th and/or 21st Street). Her mind forever focused on good for others, she participated in the self-descriptive Prayer Friends effort and the Bereavement Support effort at St. Barnabas.

Judy is survived by five children, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was a woman of conviction and compassion who loved being a mother. She was proud of her family, and her family was proud of her and Carl for raising children (Richard, David, Karen, Paul, and Mark) in a close and supportive atmosphere. We will miss you, Judy, but only for the very shortest of times, until we see you again.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM  to 11:00 AM for visitation in the O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Road, Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers, the Hirschle family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Barnabas Catholic Church (envelopes will be available at the funeral home). Please visit orileybranson.com to share a favorite memory or to leave online condolences for the Hirschle family.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Some of my early memories are watching the Wizard of Oz and in the basement and hiding from the flying monkeys behind an afghan made by grandma Hirschle and peaking through the weave. I still have a Christmas stocking she made for me that I put out every Christmas. I will think of her the most when the monarchs migrate from there down through Texas. I send much love to all my cousins. I wish we did not live so far apart.

  2. Grandma & Grandpa Hirschle’s cottage at the Bay! What exciting memories all of us cousins have! We all looked forward to everytime our parents were able to get us together. Each of us take these memories and tuck them away for sad times like this. Hold tight to memories, I know mine came back to so many good ones.

Richard, David, Karen, Paul, Mark & families, you have my deepest sympathy.

  3. Aunt Judy enjoyed visiting the north shore of Sandusky Bay. Uncle Carl loved to fish and Judy just loved to listen to stories of everyone’s life. She enjoyed sharing stories of her children and grands. She was a joy to visit with and so kind.

I have seen a few Monarch Butterflies on the property in the past week – maybe a visit ?? until she reunites with all her loved ones in heaven and becomes our guardian angel.

May you all find comfort in her passing and keep her memory alive with all that you say and do ❤️🦋❤️🦋
