Karen Sue Matthews 69, of Indianapolis, a cherished soul whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her, passed away on May 8, 2026. Karen was born on June 14, 1956, to the late Ralph and Pauline Lowe, Karen lived a life filled with love, devotion, and unforgettable memories.
Her early years were marked by the simple joys of a typical childhood, leading to her graduation from Manual High School in 1974. It was during this pivotal time that Karen worked at Lane Bryant and crossed paths with Bill Matthews, a meeting that would blossom into a lifelong partnership. Together, Karen and Bill navigated life’s joys and challenges, their bond strengthened by love and resilience, especially as Karen faced the trials brought on by multiple sclerosis.
On June 3, 1978, Karen and Bill joined in marriage, a union celebrated with love and hope. Later that year, on November 8, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Angie Conder, into the world—a bright light in Karen’s life. Known affectionately by Bill as “Tweety” for her fondness of the charming Tweety Bird, Karen embraced motherhood with a tender and nurturing spirit.
Karen’s heart was generous and full of passion. She loved watching Angie play softball, cherishing those moments that spoke of family pride and support. Together, they enjoyed shopping adventures and crafted beautiful memories through creative projects. The family’s weekends often echoed with laughter and joy at car shows, visits to The Suds, and spirited cruises in whatever vehicle Bill happened to have at the time. The weekend bar outings with Bill and their friends were highlighted by the joy of music and karaoke performances, where Bill’s singing brought smiles and unity.
In 2010, Karen’s world grew even brighter with the arrival of her only granddaughter, Kayle Williams, born on February 5. Karen showered Kayle with an abundance of love and affection, delighting in every precious moment with her.
Karen is survived by her loving husband; Bill W. Matthews II (Heido Ho), daughter; Angie (Jason Smith) Conder, granddaughter; Kayle Williams, and siblings; Shirley Bloom, and Gary (Linda) Lowe.
