Margaret J. "Peg" Layton

Peg Layton, 97, of Indianapolis, passed away April 4, 2018. She was born in Indianapolis on August 16, 1920 to Irish immigrant parents, John Byrne Gallagher and Mary Agnes McHugh Gallagher. She married James C. Layton on August 24, 1957; he preceded her in death on February 13, 1991.

Peg attended St. John Grade School and graduated from St. John’s Girls Academy in 1938. She was a woman of deep faith and generosity and she devoted her life to helping her family. She was beloved by all.

Peg leaves behind two sisters, Theresa Gallagher and Patricia Himes; one brother, Edward Gallagher and his wife, Mary; also left to grieve her passing are many nieces and nephews as well as many great and great great nieces and nephews, close friends, and her outstanding caregivers at St. Paul’s Hermitage.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church, 128 W. Georgia Street, Indianapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Peg’s name to St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove or to the American Cancer Society.
