Michael F. Frankiewicz, a devoted family man and a cherished friend, passed away on May 23, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on October 9, 1953, in Calumet City, Illinois, Michael’s life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion.

For many years, Michael dedicated himself to the steel industry, working as a foreman until his retirement in 2025. His career reflected not only his strong work ethic but also his leadership and commitment to the people he worked with. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was a man of remarkable passions who found joy in nurturing life and creating beauty. An avid gardener, his love for bonsai trees was a reflection of his patience and attention to detail. He was also skilled in woodworking and had a gift for cooking, and  foraging for mushrooms,  which he shared generously with those around him.

His Catholic faith held made him the kind, generous man we was.  At the heart of Michael’s life were his “four-legged children,” as he lovingly called his Kids, who were the center of his world. His home was always warm with their presence, and his love for them was evident to all who knew him. Michael’s kindness extended beyond his immediate family; he was known for his generosity in helping the homeless members of his community, touching lives with his compassion and steadfast spirit.

Michael is survived by his devoted daughters, Sarah Frankiewicz, Emily (Matthew Bennett) Frankiewicz, and Olivia (Frank) Frankiewicz-Meza, who carry forward his legacy of love and resilience. He also leaves behind treasured grandchildren: Isabella Meza, Sagan Wilder, and Logan Meza, who were a source of joy and pride in his later years. Michael’s current beloved four-legged companions, Tasha and Lucian, remain in the hearts of the family, a living reminder of his gentle soul. Alongside his family, Michael’s dear friends Gary and Jane Mullner stands by, honoring the bond they shared.

His passing also marks the loss of those who preceded him: his beloved parents, Francis and Anna (Wenzslowski) Frankiewicz, his grandson Isreal Frankiewicz, his sister Shirley Witt, and his aunt Helen Baranowski. Michael’s four-legged friends Tina, Bella, Scout, and Dixie, who left pawprints on his heart, also rest in peace.

A memorial service for Michael will be held on Saturday, June 20 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the American Legion, 109 Williams Street, Thornton, Illinois 60476.
