Peter I. "Pete" Georgescu, Jr.

Peter I. “Pete” Georgescu, Jr., 83, Indianapolis, passed away January 16, 2019. Pete was born September 20, 1935, in Indianapolis, to the late Peter I. and Frances (Stergar) Georgescu.

He graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School and attended Butler University. Pete proudly served in the Air National Guard. He worked as a claim representative and also as the local manager at the Hartford Insurance for 30 years, retiring in 1993. Pete was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 3660. An avid bicyclist, he was also a member of the Central Indiana Bicycling Association. Since his retirement, he had logged over 86,000 miles bicycling. He also enjoyed golfing and was a part of the Old Timers at Pleasant Run Golf Club. Pete was known for being meticulous about yardwork and was exceptionally handy – always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He will be fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Quinn) Georgescu, to whom he was united in marriage August 19, 1961; children, Steve (Robert Orrock) Georgescu, Beth Georgescu, and Mark (Ken Kilday) Georgescu; and his twin brother, Paul (Georgie) Georgescu.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 20, 2019, 2 to 5 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. Prayers will be said there on Monday, January 21, 2019, 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.   1. Pete was my mentor and inspiration for riding my bike across the country. He put the idea in my head and supported me when I actually did it. He was my SAG driver for RAIN in 2007. I rode many, many miles with Pete. He will truly be missed. My sympathy to his family. Lisa Searles
