Robert F. Metzler

Robert F. Metzler, 87, Indianapolis, passed away February 28, 2017. Mr. Metzler was born February 15, 1930, in Indianapolis, to the late Frank and Judith (Dierker) Metzler.

He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and proudly served in the United States Army. Mr. Metzler worked for many years for Peninsular Steel Co. He was a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church and member and past Faithful Navigator of Msgr. M. Downey Knights of Columbus Council 3660.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (Bordenkecher) Metzler and one granddaughter, April Metzler.

Survivors include one daughter, Anne Metzler Allen (Steven); one son, Mark R. Metzler; brother, Thomas Metzler (Kay); grandchildren, Amy Metzler Combs (Gregory), Anthony Metzler (Paige), and Emilee Metzler Allen; three great grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2017, in St. Jude Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, 4 – 8 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6017 S. East Street (US Hwy. 31 South), where morning prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m., Friday prior to Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
