Roger Pippenger passed peacefully surrounded by family on June 20, 2026.
Roger was born in Brook, Indiana to the late Dr. Wayne and Gladys Pippenger. He attended Culver Military Academy, graduating in 1959. From there, he attended Franklin College before serving his country in the Navy. After his Navy service, he went to Ball State where he would meet his wife of 58 years Irene (Roozen) Pippenger. They would move to the Southside of Indianapolis, where they remained for a lifetime. He was an active member of St. Barnabas Church. He sang in the choir for many years. He played in the golf league and in his younger days the softball league. Many Sundays after 10:30 mass he could be found at coffee and donuts. He loved social activities and never met a stranger. His warmth and charm was evident to everyone even to the end. The staff at Demaree frequently told family how much they liked him and what a sweet man he was. Demaree is where he spent the final year of his life and the family thanks the staff who showed him so much care and kindness.
Roger worked for many years but most of his career was spent at Amos Hill, Esterline Angus and retiring from Alpine.
His northern Indiana roots were always visible in his life. He had worked on farms as a boy and his interest and love of that never left him. His northern Indiana roots may also be why he was such a huge Cubs fan his entire life. He loved sporting events, especially the Indy 500 and for awhile had Colts season tickets, which he loved.
He provided and supported his family throughout his life. But he also really enjoyed them and filled their lives with happiness.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, his children; Michele (Eric) Brenner, Laura (Brad) Miller and Mathew (Elizabeth) Pippenger, and his grandchildren; Maria and Lizzie Miller and Michael Pippenger. He is also survived by his brother, Captain William Pippenger, as well as nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; Wayne and Gladys Pippenger, brothers; Richard (Kathy) Pippenger, Charles (Jane Ann) Pippenger and sister-in-law; Eleanor Pippenger.
