Sharon Ann Roeder

October 4, 1939 ~ October 1, 2026

Born in: Beech Grove, Indiana
Resided in: Columbus, Indiana

Sharon Ann (Sherry) Roeder passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, just three days shy of her 87th birthday.

Raised in Vincennes, Indiana, Sherry graduated from St. Rose Academy in 1957. That same year, she was named the Indiana Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year, after earning the top score on a written exam out of more than 8,000 contestants statewide. This honor brought two prizes which would influence her greatly. One prize was a trip to New York City, which became the start of a lifelong love of travel. The other prize was a $1,500 scholarship, which she used to attend St. Anthony’s School of Nursing. There, her natural leadership ability led her to serve as president of her graduating class in 1961.

Sherry built her life on a foundation of family, faith, and service. She was working as a dedicated surgical nurse when she married Robert (Bob) Roeder in 1969. Deeply involved in her community, she also served a full, impactful term as president of the state chapter for the philanthropic sorority Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Following Bob’s unexpected passing in 1978, Sherry focused her life on raising her son. Putting her role as a mother first, she shifted careers to ensure she had the hours needed for him, joining American Fletcher National Bank, where she dedicated 25 years before retiring in 2004.

Outside of work, Sherry enjoyed gardening, reading, and doing the daily crossword. She made friends easily wherever she went. She also never said no to a good pork chop or a classic Hoosier breaded tenderloin.

Above all, Sherry was extraordinarily proud of her family. While she would happily tell anyone who would listen about her son, Jim, and her daughter-in-law, Tara, her two greatest joys were her grandchildren, Cate and Jake. She loved attending whatever they were involved in, whether it was ballet, ice skating, soccer, basketball, volleyball, or school plays.

She is survived by her beloved son, Jim Roeder and his wife, Tara; her two cherished grandchildren, Cate (20) and Jake (16) Roeder; her sister, Sandy (Bill) Schmidt; her brother, Chick (Faye) Scott; brother-in-law Bill Tichenor; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Roeder; her parents, James N. Scott and Margaret Anne Maroney Scott; and her sisters, Kathy Scott Tichenor and Jacque Scott Clements.

All friends and family are invited to tell stories and celebrate Sherry’s life on Friday, October 9 at 10:00 a.m. at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46237 and to attend her memorial service which will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m.
