Terry F. McGlinchey, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 23, 2023. Terry was born in Indianapolis, to the late Francis & Eloise McGlinchey, on July 4, 1936. He attended St, Philip Neri Catholic Elementary School and was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Marion College. Terry was a veteran of the United States Army initially enlisting in 1958 and serving again during the Cuban Missile Crisis. For over 25 years, he proudly served in the Indianapolis Fire Department. Terry married the love of his life, Carol (Fehn) McGlinchey on December 30, 1967. Together they raised four children, and they joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2017. Terry was a devoted husband and father. He loved taking good care of his car as one of his hobbies along with exploring different parts of the city bicycling with his son, Mike. Terry also enjoyed traveling, and he cherished the opportunity to see Ireland with his family. He was passionate about music, especially Jazz and Big Band. He especially enjoyed his family visits including attending school, church, and sporting events, and cheering on his grandchildren who affectionately knew him as “Papa”. Terry was an optimist, believing in the importance of always having a positive attitude and gratitude for one’s blessings. Terry was gifted in making everyone feel special and important. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives were touched and enriched by his loving presence.
Terry is survived by his loving wife; Carol McGlinchey, children; Michael McGlinchey, Kathryn (Robert) Benton, Eileen (Joseph) Bernstein and Emily (Daniel) Gilbride, grandchildren; Jessica, Daniel, Brian, Molly, Nicholas, Rachel, Joseph, Christopher, Abby, Charlie, Maggie and Bridget, siblings; Marilyn Schwegman, Joan (David) Tanksley and Mark McGlinchey and brother-in-law; Howard Schneeberger and many nieces and nephews.
Terry is preceded in death by his siblings; David McGlinchey, Angie Matthews and Connie Schneeberger and sister-in-law; Barbara McGlinchey.
Terry’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be held at O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46237. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 28, 2023, from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Indianapolis, on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 10:00am, followed by entombment at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis. Uncle Terry was always a kid at heart, easy to laugh and curious by nature. His optimism was contagious and his loyalty unwavering. Terry was a joyful and ever optimistic man. He lifted my spirits whenever we spoke. He and Carol raised a wonderful family and leaves behind a glorious legacy. I wish the best for the McGlinchey family during this trying time.
