Thomas D. Ooley

Thomas D. Ooley, 71, Greenwood, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on September 26, 2019. Tom was born July 12, 1948, in Beech Grove, to the late Lawrence “Jack” and Mary Virginia (Kattau) Ooley.

He graduated from Chartrand High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for more than ten years for Beneficial Finance and for Shelter Insurance before becoming the co-owner of Affiliated Financial Professionals. Tom retired in 2008. He was an avid genealogist and enjoyed doing his research in old cemeteries. He also took great pride in caring for his yard. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. A wise, methodical, and diplomatic man, Tom was known for being quite precise about his work. He will be fondly remembered by a loving family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Harmon and a sister, Irene Schaffer.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carol (Brown) Ooley; two sons, David (Mindy) and Brian (Leslie); son-in-law, David Harmon; sisters, Toni Grider, and Ginny Brittain; five grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren, Ryan, Michael and Joshua.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Tom Ooley on Sunday, September 29, 2019, 2 to 5 p.m., at the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. The funeral service will begin there at 11 a.m., Monday, September 30, 2019. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.   1. I’m so sorry to hear about Tom. I lost touch with him after he retired & telephone numbers changed. His dad & I were cousins but Tom was just a year younger than me. Just a few weeks ago I was talking about him & the great genealogy book he gave me. Then yesterday going thru old pics I found a pic of us as toddlers playing. I’ve often wished I knew where he was. Haven’t seen or talked to him since before he retired. Prayers for all.
