Thomas "Thom" J. Greene

August 17, 1950 ~ May 19, 2022
Thomas “Thom” J. Greene, 71 of Beech Grove, died peacefully, surrounded by his family at home on Thursday, May 19, 2022. He was born August 17, 1950 in Coleman Hospital to Francis Thomas and Dorothy Katherine Wilcox Greene.
Thom graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School. At an early age, Thom heard the call to serve and protect his community and became a cadet for the Indianapolis Police Department. He later became a police officer for the city of Indianapolis, serving his beloved community for 34 years. He retired in 2004. After retiring, he was the director of SAFEM and security at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He was also the director of security at Honda in Greensburg, Indiana, and he was currently a Program Director 1 for the State of Indiana Department of Child Services.
Thom had a strong Catholic Faith. He recited the rosary every day, and he was a faithful member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He was a member of the Monsignor Downey Knights of Columbus #3660 (Past Grand Knight); he held his 3rd degree at Monsignor Downey and his 4th degree at Bishop Chatard. Thom was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #86 and several police related organizations. Thom was involved with his children and was active in the South Grove Elementary PTA, where he served as past president and supported the Beech Grove Band Boosters.
Thom enjoyed golfing, watching game shows with his sister-in-law, Carol, a good cigar, driving his “Honey Car,” and spending time on the “Sister Alacoque Retreat” in his backyard where he would talk with the birds. He loved performing magic tricks for his grandchildren and others. Thom will be remembered for always being happy and having a wonderful sense of humor. His biggest passion was his family.
Thom is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Belinda K. Greene, daughter Cristina M. Greene (Dawn M. Wagner), son Thomas J. Greene II (Megan), grandchildren Toni C. England, Monica Marie Thomas (Brandon), Justin X. England (Miranda), Madison P. Wagner, Miranda K. Greene and Jayde M. Welch, great-grandchildren Kinzley Jewell Thomas (Little Z), and Zoey Marie Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. Thom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald J. Greene.
The family will celebrate Thom’s life with a visitation Monday, May 23, 2022 from 4 – 8 pm at O’Riley Branson Funeral Service and Cremation, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis. There will be morning prayers Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 9:45 am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Holy Name Catholic Church, 89 North 17th Avenue, Beech Grove, Indiana. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
It is Thom’s wish for everyone to celebrate the way he lived, and not the way he died.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Franciscan Health Cancer Center Indianapolis or Holy Name Catholic Church Beech Grove.

Thom was of those I was blessed to cross paths with, who thoroughly enjoyed himself in life, while being in the service of others. In my years of working around Thom, he displayed an great understanding of people that many fail to obtain. I saw Thom as always considering the entire picture of issues he dealt with, not just the simple edges of issues. For Thomas J. Greene I pray: Eternal Rest, grant unto him, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
Uncle Tom was a funny guy. I loved the way he was a brother to my dad and mom and treated my whole family like they were his own. The race parties and luaus were some of my favorite memories and he genuinely wanted everybody to have a great time. He didn’t really know a stranger and was not afraid to strike up a conversation at any time. I enjoyed our time together and will always remember those times with a smile. This picture above sums up his demeanor, smiling and happy. He loved Linda, Christy, TJ and those grandkids and great-grandkids with all his heart. You will be missed and not forgotten. I know you will be watching over your family from above. I am so glad for all the good times with you. Rest in peace. Chuck
Thom was someone who always made you feel happy. Go with God my friend.
Thom made coming to work a fun experience in addition to helping to get the job done. As a supervisor he was always willing to think outside the box to assist in a tough investigation. His positive attitude went a very long way in creating a motivated and productive crew. After retirement he remained a friend whom I treasured. May Thom Rest In Peace.
Thom was the best boss I ever had and a great friend. I still remember him telling me “It’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission.” I haven’t seen him in years but I will still miss him.
Sending lots of love and prayers!!Love Jeanie and Jason Kidwell

My condolences to Thom’s family, co-workers and friends. He was a special person all around. May he rest in Heaven.
I met Thom in 1971 I believe. He had just graduated from the academy and was riding late shift with Officer Tim Price on Boy 11, I ran Boy 12. We became instant friends that lasted throughout our years on IPD. He always had a smile whenever the opportunity to see each other presented itself. This causes more sorrow than I can express. My condolences to his family and all that loved Thom as well. Gil Riley Sgt. IPD ret
Belinda- sorry to hear of your loss of Thom. He and I worked many years on the streets, plus working part time jobs together. We got along great! I have a very heavy heart with his passing. Richard Kivett
A great man and great supervisor to work for.
My wife Mary and I knew Thom from Holy Rosary church and we always enjoyed the company of Thom and his wife. He always had a smile on his face and was a very outgoing, friendly person. Our condolences go out to Thom’s wife and loved ones.
Tom was an engaged and outstanding IPD cadet. His law enforcement career and reputation only grew from there. One of those unique officers that everyone – and I mean everyone respected and valued. RIP My Friend! – DT Smith
