Uldis Duselis

Uldis Duselis, beloved husband, father, and grandfather,passed away on July 16, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 81. 

Uldis was born August 31, 1944, in Cēsis, Latvia, to Emils and Helena Duselis. His earliest years were spent in a refugee camp, where he was raised with the help of his aunt and uncle, Gaida and Peter Lapsa, and his grandmother, Milda Celmins, until he immigrated to the United States at the age of five. 

In 1963, Uldis received a degree in Physics from Purdue University. He then served in the army 1964-1967, earning commendations for his service in Germany. 

Uldis married Jane Spearing in 1975. Together, they raised ten children and welcomed nineteen grandchildren. 

Uldis was a brilliant and thoughtful man, whether he would admit it or not. His intellectual pursuits were fueled by coffee and potato chips.  

More than anything, Uldis was defined by his endless dedication and love for his family. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emils and Helena. He is survived by his wife, Jane,  and children: Peter (Tatiana) Duselis; John (Amanda) Duselis; Michael Duselis; Thomas Duselis (Staci Hollar); Catherine (Hjalti) Thordarson; Marian (Son) Pham; Mark (Mimi) Duselis; Paul (Julie) Duselis; Elizabeth Duselis; Rosemary Duselis (Ryan Collins). He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Angelina, Isabel, Erin, James, Ethan, William, Helena, Emmett, Cedric, Gemma, Miriam, Beatrice, Charles, Georg, Elisabet, Marteinn, Penelope, Anson, and Henry. 

Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S East St, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A funeral service to honor Uldis’s life will follow at the same location beginning at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
