Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana

Walter “Paul” Murphy, 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 4, 2025. Paul was born to the late William & Frances (Ensminger) Murphy on February 8, 1944, in Indianapolis. Paul attended Beech  Grove High School and was in the graduating class of 1962. Shortly after, Paul would begin his 50-year career at Kroger Bakery in the sweet goods department. He retired as Inventory Control Buyer in 2012.

Inspired by his Grandfather who was a Conductor for the B&O Railroad, Paul was an avid HO railroad train buff and shared his love of trains with his sons and grandson. He was also a transit token collector and enjoyed buying and selling at the yearly conventions.

Kindness and respect were key, along with teaching his 2 boys how to do many different skills. He was very active with his sons in Cub Scouts and Webelos. The Pinewood Derby was always a fun father/son event that they looked forward to each year. Paul could often be found coaching little league baseball for many years, making him a very proud and happy dad. Family vacations were filled with laughter and lots of birthday cake, because it seems the family was always traveling in a special week in June!

Paul was often referred to as a “gentle giant” and will be missed by his family and friends.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; Anna Marie (Re) Murphy, sons; Michael  (Nancy) Murphy, and David (Kori) Murphy, grandchildren; Emily (Oscar) Thomas, Will Murphy, Olivia Murphy, and Maggie Murphy, all of which were near and dear to his heart, great-grandson; Franklin Murphy Thomas, who would make Paul smile from ear to ear just to see him. He is also survived by his sisters; Patty Coulter and Mary (Dan) Pease, and many Irish Cousins.
