Yong Tai Choi, 97 a distinguished systems analyst, instructor, and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, in Bargersville, Indiana, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on May 23, 1928, in Sariwon, Korea, Yong’s journey through life was marked by an insatiable curiosity and an unwavering dedication to education and the well-being of those he loved.

An intellectual at heart, Yong obtained a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the esteemed Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, followed by an MBA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. His thirst for knowledge led him to the United Kingdom as a British Council Scholar, further refining his acumen in academia. With over twenty years of devoted service as a systems analyst and instructor specializing in programming and database management, he played a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of technical professionals.

Yong attended the Korean Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis.

Yong’s personal pursuits ventured beyond the confines of academic excellence. He had a profound love for travel, exploring the vast tapestry of cultures and landscapes around the world. An avid reader of non-fiction and economics, he immersed himself in the complexities of human knowledge, feeding a mind that was both analytical and creative. Whether camping under a starlit sky, relishing fine dining experiences, or embarking upon scenic road trips, Yong delighted in the richness of experiences that life had to offer. Additionally, he found joy in the melodic embrace of music, skillfully playing both the piano and violin.

Among his many notable achievements, Yong took immense pride in bringing his entire family from South Korea, a testament to his deep commitment to their well-being and togetherness. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sung Joo Choi, and his adoring daughters, Ellen Y (Randy) Springborn and Cathy Y (Mark Harbers) Choi. He leaves behind a legacy that includes five cherished grandchildren: Timothy Jordan Fishback, Danelle Morgan Fishback, Jakob Yong Harbers, Nathaniel Sung Harbers, and Joshua Sun Harbers, along with a great granddaughter, Maia Isabelle Clark and 2 siblings.

Yong is preceded in death by his parents Wha Jung Choi and Sun Joon Yu and 3 siblings.

A private family funeral will be held for Yong at O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service and Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227

Yong Tai Choi’s life was a symphony of love, knowledge, and adventure, a narrative that has now transitioned to another realm yet resonates profoundly in the hearts of those he left behind. He will be missed dearly but remembered vividly, as his spirit continues to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
