Frieda M. Hayes

Frieda M. Hayes, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 surrounded by her family. Frieda was born in Indianapolis on October 22, 1928 to the late Harold and Goldie M. (Hendricks) Abram. Frieda was united in marriage to the late Richard D. Hayes on July 3, 1948 .

Frieda was a graduate of George Washington High School. A woman who took great pride in her family, she was the consummate wife and mother. Frieda was an excellent cook and baker, most famous for her delicious pumpkin bread. She loved her family, growing beautiful flowers in her garden, eating chocolate, her cat, and the color purple. Previously, Frieda was very active in the Red Hat Society and attended NASCAR races with her late husband. A kind-hearted lady, Frieda always saw the good in everyone and everything in life. Her gentle spirit will be missed by all of those who loved her.

Along with her parents and husband, Frieda was preceded in death by her son, Larry D. Hayes and her brother, Robert C. Abram.

Survivors include her children, Michael G. (JoAnn) Hayes and Diana L. (Richard) Stewart; siblings, Donald (Janet) Abram, Peggy Underhill, Geraldine Ward, and Marilyn (Jack) Holland; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Family and friends will gather for the visitation on Friday, September 4, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. in the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Friday in the funeral home. Following the service, Frieda will be laid to rest next to Richard in Floral Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.
