I first met Mark at the 33rd ISP Recruit School, and he was one of the best in our class. I will always remember the night of December 13, 1977—just five days before our graduation. I rode with Mark to Bloomington to pick up some paperwork. It was a cool, foggy night, and when we returned to the Academy, we learned of the tragic crash that took the lives of all 29 passengers on the University of Evansville basketball team’s plane.
Over the years, Mark and I reconnected and shared stories about our lives, picking up right where we had left off, as if no time had passed.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Brigid and the entire family during this difficult time. Mark was truly a good man—devoted to his faith, his family, and his career. I feel fortunate to have known him and to have shared so many memories along the way.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
