Patricia A. Gallagher Himes

June 19, 1929 ~ October 7, 2022
Patricia A. Gallagher Himes, “Ma”, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 19, 1929, the sixth and last child of John Byrne Gallagher and Mary Agnes McHugh Gallagher, both Irish immigrants. Patty lived on the southside of Indianapolis all her life. She attended St. John Grade School and St. John’s Girls Academy where she graduated from in 1948. She married Richard D. “Dick” Himes on February 3, 1951.
She is survived by her three children David Jr. (Barb McHugh) Himes, Mary Smith (Bart) and John (Deb Alvin) Himes, a very special nephew, John L. Berry, and one brother, Edward Gallagher. She was blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren who loved her fiercely, Carrie Himes, David Himes III (Abby Dagley), John J. Himes “Jake”, Nicholas Himes (Cassie Cunningham), Katie Smith (Brad Smith), Emry Cole McHugh Himes, Drew Smith & Neil Smith. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren who she cherished.
Patty worked at Lane Bryant for many years then worked for Alexander & Alexander before retiring in the early 1990’s. After retirement she enjoyed working in the family pub, Gallagher’s. She loved working with all the young people there. One of her favorite things was celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at the family pub. She dressed in her kelly-green pantsuit, adorned herself with Irish-themed jewelry and welcomed all who came to join in the festivities. With her tiny stature, she was our very own leprechaun!
Patty was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a favorite among her church family there, all of whom she loved dearly. Fr. Rick Nagel holds a special place in her heart, thinking of him like one of her own sons.
Preceding Patty in death was her beloved husband of 53 years, Dick Himes; sisters, Marie Fitzgerald, Peg Layton, Theresa Gallagher; brother, John P. Gallagher.

Ma you were a feisty loving soul. You will be missed. ❣️
Patty was a beautiful part of our family at Saint John’s, and I always felt grateful to see her at Mass, events, and celebrations over nearly 30 years. Her smile and faithful example inspired me and our family. We pray God will continue to bless her, as He did in sharing Patty with us! With deepest sympathy, Dave Certo
Since I first came to the US, Ma always made me feel home and part of the Himes family. Her heart was big, and I loved how protective she was of those that she cared about. She passed on her goodness to her children, grand-children, and great-grand-children. For this she had a successful life. A lot of prayers from old Europe.
My deepest sympathy to the family. My family knew Patty’s family for years. My oldest sister was a friend of Theresa. When we would see Patty, she would be happy and very friendly. Sorry I cannot make the services due to health reasons
Love and prayers
