Daniel J. "Dano" McKenna

Daniel J. “Dano” McKenna, 55, a lifetime resident of Beech Grove, passed away at his home surrounded by his family after a long, courageous battle with his health. Daniel was born on May 27, 1964 in Beech Grove to the late Michael F. McKenna, Sr. and Carolyn (Pierle) Sowers McKenna.

Daniel was a graduate of Beech Grove High School. Upon graduating high school Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Army. Daniel was raised in the Catholic church and attended Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove. Being an avid sports fanatic, Daniel enjoyed watching his favorite teams play, the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Reds. Daniel loved being surrounded by his friends.

Along with both of his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by a brother, Dwayne S. Sowers.

Survivors include his siblings, Carrie L. Wagoner, Debra A., Susan M., Mike F., Jr., and John P. (Gretchen Armstrong) McKenna; a sister-in-law, Nancy Sowers; a great nephew; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. in the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Name Catholic Church, 89 North 17th Avenue, Beech Grove.   3. Danny n I had a great bond. Everything he did I, of course I was going to try it. We got into my mom’s makeup, then got in big trouble after photos n a laugh. He rode down a gravel hill on his bike behind the grade school n I said shoot I can do that! No I could not. Danny made sure I was taken home bloody n all. One time in grade school some boys started to bully him n I stepped up n those boys never did that again. We had a great bond that even through I moved 3000 miles away it never left us. I will always think of Danny as my twin brother whom I loved running done the street without our clothes after our bed time bath. I can’t tell you how sad I am. I will miss him forever! Until I meet up with you again….

  4. Danny was something else, no one in BG didn’t not know him. He and Debbie were so close mom used to say whatever Debbie told him Danny did. Once mom put them in the the tub, went to get there PJ’s and came back to find them gone. Mary (neighbor down the street came down hand in hand with them and said are these two yours? From that point on Mary and mom we’re best friends. Whatever Debbie said Danny did. They kept mom on her toes. He grew up with the Heldman boys (Dave and Bart) being his best friends. When he joined the army he met and married Heidi Mann. (She proceeded him in death. Danny or as everyone in BG knew him Dano, will be missed by many. He was I good guy and will be missed. I love you Danny and I’m so jealous you are with Mom and. Dwayne again. I’m love you bc brother and so happy for 1 My Cody was with you through your finally journey to the end and to we made peace between us give my mom a hug from me. Until we meet again

  5. You were such a sweetheart…quick to help anyone in need. I remember the day he said I am going to be the president of Beech Grove Eagles Lodge. I couldn’t believe it, I’d be damn come time for elections Dano McKeena was the President Of Beech Grove Eagles Lodge. I will miss his calls saying this is “Dano” you know what I want!!!! Lol ….yes Dano I will have it ready in 30 minutes.( Here he would come for his pizza) Dano differently left a Legacy …..he was one of a kind. Dano would always go to pay his respect to the ones he cared for who went before him. Until we meet again….see you later

  6. I have known Danny since we were just youngins! We were part of the 7up club Ms Heller had and played kick ball, baseball or whatever game was going in over at the field on 7th! He had a kind heart and always helping others when he could. You will certainly be missed my childhood friend! Godspeed and RIH ❤️ Karen Keister
